Past Shows

Throughout the year we perform lots of small shows and take part in other events that we are invited along to, which helps us to teach our members to give back to the community. We aim to try and put on at least one large show a year, some groups do these at our own mini theatre while the advance class puts a show on at the Hazlitt theatre in Maidstone.

Below you can read a bit about some of the larger shows we have performed in the past.

Big Band and Boogie - September 2003

Big Band and Boogie Photo

It is not always easy to find a definite theme for any one show being a variety show it is especially difficult because of the word variety. But obviously when one starts to think about programs and posters we have to have a title, normally to get that title we emphasize what the main content, normally situated in the second half of the show, is based upon. This year the whole of the second half was designated to the big band era with numbers like `Mack the knife`, `Oh Look at me now`, `Big Spender`, to name but a few.

The first half of the show we decided to open with a spectacular illuminated dance, 'Thriller' using UV costumes. The masks for this one particular number took 240 hours to make. Form then on we continued with other ghoulish type numbers, 'Monster Mash' etc. The last part of the second half was a touching plot of a young child who gives her shoes away to another child in a worse situation than her self, only to be told by her mother that they weren't in a position to give gifts away since their father dies in a house fire. The mother was distraught and prayed that evening and in the morning was rewarded by a stranger who arranged for a barn dance with all of the past over 60's stars including , Elvis, Dusty Springfield, Mamma Cass, Buddy Holly, Big Bopper, Connie Francis. The twist was given away at the end of the half when the little girl who received the shoes turned up on stage with the stranger all in white with large white feathery wings...

The whole show was interspersed with brilliant performances from the Acromax acrobatic dance team and the amazing illusionist Bob Barron.
