Past Shows

Throughout the year we perform lots of small shows and take part in other events that we are invited along to, which helps us to teach our members to give back to the community. We aim to try and put on at least one large show a year, some groups do these at our own mini theatre while the advance class puts a show on at the Hazlitt theatre in Maidstone.

Below you can read a bit about some of the larger shows we have performed in the past.

Summertime Special - September 2000

The first major production for the group was in June 2000. This was a variety show called Summertime Special and ran for 5 nights at the Hazlitt Theatre in Maidstone, Kent.

This was the first time that many of us had ever been on stage and although we had rehearsed for 6 months, we didn't get to the theatre until the Sunday before our first show, which meant we only had two days in which to put up all the scenery and work out on the stage all the correct places and positions we had to be in during the acts. The second of the two days was for our first dress rehearsal, all of us were very nervous.

The producer guided us through the show and explained each person's importance on stage. With this guidance and trust in our producer the 6 months rehearsals paid off, although we had new surroundings it all came together well.

The dressmakers had spent a lot of time making all the costumes but it wasnt until the sunday before the show that we had time to try them on, once everyone got together on stage in costume the full effect could not be imagined.

Scenery

Being on a real stage for the first time was exciting enough but to have real scenery and props to work with, realy uplifted our performances.

Most of our actors were unaware of the time and effort spent by the scenery and props team. The stage effects proved the importance of a good backstage team and realy enhanced all of our efforts.
