Throughout the year we perform lots of small shows and take part in other events that we are invited along to, which helps us to teach our members to give back to the community. We aim to try and put on at least one large show a year, some groups do these at our own mini theatre while the advance class puts a show on at the Hazlitt theatre in Maidstone.
Below you can read a bit about some of the larger shows we have performed in the past.
We run clubs in main stream schools, they have put their shows on in our mini theatre; from these classes we select the young people, who attend regularly, are well behaved and who have shown signs of wanting to improve their talents, also those that need a higher standard of tuition. They rehearse at our mini theatre and from now will put their shows on at the local theatre.
Tonight you will see how far the members have come in this special variety show written in pantomime form. Again this is a deliberate ploy to get our members into acting rolls, therefore increasing their skills on the stage. It’s OK to have good dancing and singing skills, but it seems one must have all the skills if a chosen career is to be on the stage.
The Choreography is tremendous and the dancers come out shinning, it is hard to believe that 95% have never had formal dance or singing lessons, however it does prove hard work does pay off. We have put a lot of effort in the scenery, this all on a very slender budget, however I think you will agree that the effort has enhanced the story and makes it to be more believable.
